Cash and engagement ring stolen in Thorpe burglary

schedule

Thieves are being sought after an engagement ring and a quantity of cash were stolen during a burglary at a home in Thorpe Willoughby on New Year's Eve.

The farmhouse, close to the Hambleton roundabout on Selby Bypass, was targeted between 1 and 5 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon. Burglars gained entry by snapping a kitchen window lock before carrying out an untidy search of every room in the property.

A 'Canadian Ice' diamond engagement ring with a white gold band and £800 in cash was taken during the incident.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward – in particular, they would like to hear from any dog walkers or railway workers who may have been in the vicinity between Saturday and New Year’s Eve and noticed any suspicious people or vehicles.

They are also interested to speak with anyone who may have CCTV or dash-cam footage captured in the village leading up to, and on New Year’s Eve.

Police Investigator David Pegg of North Yorkshire Police said:

“The victims returned to their home on New Year’s Eve and quickly realised that their home had been burgled after finding their front door wide and kitchen window wide open.

“Every room had been rifled through and their four year-old daughter, who saw the aftermath of the burglary, has been left terrified believing that ‘monsters’ are coming back to get her.

“I appeal to anyone who has any information that could help us to catch those responsible to come forward.”

Anyone who has any information which could assist the investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police.
