Met Office forecasters have issued a warning ahead of heavy downpours and thunderstorms likely to affect Yorkshire later.
Agency meteorologists say thunderstorms are expected to break out across the north of England during the afternoon and into the evening.
Predictions by the Weather Channel show heavy rain most likely hit Selby and the surrounding area from around 4:30pm today. Predicted to be heavy only at times, lighter rain is likely to persist through Wednesday's evening peak commute.
Although some places will miss the thunderstorms, there is a chance of localised sudden flooding of homes, businesses and roads. Frequent lightning and large hail may be additional hazards, the latter bringing potential for disruption to power.
The Met Office's chief forecaster said, "Although many places are likely to miss the worst of the rain, intense downpours associated with the thunderstorms may give over 30 mm in an hour locally and perhaps more than 50 mm in 2 or 3 hours. As is usual in this type of situation there is uncertainty in the worst affected areas."
