A man has been charged with drink driving after a crash that left a lamp post horizontal and a car in a ditch.
The silver Audi struck the post at around 1:30 yesterday morning. The force of the impact severed the post, leaving it lying across the A63 at Osgodby.
Police say a member of the public reported seeing the driver get out of the car and walking away from the scene. He was able to pass a good description to police and a suspect was located on York Road in Barlby a short time later.
He allegedly failed a roadside breath test and was promptly arrested.
Back at the station, a second test showed a reading of 90 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath – over two and a half times the legal limit of 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
He was charged with drink driving and will appear at York Magistrates on Wednesday 14 March 2018.
