Police have responded to multiple traffic problems on the A19 this morning.

A multi-vehicle incident caused the road to be blocked between Deighton and Crockey Hill from around 10am this morning.

A second incident also blocked the same road north of Escrick, where a lorry had jack-knifed. Traffic is now reported to be moving slowly through that stretch of road.

Police have urged drivers on the region's roads to take care and watch for drifting snow on the roads.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said, "The poor weather continues to disrupt travel conditions across North Yorkshire’s roads and we are urging you to consider if your journey is absolutely necessary.

"Most roads are passable however some require additional caution - in particular, the A19 between York and Selby.

"Officers have already dealt with a number of incidents on this stretch of road. The snow drift in places covers the road surface by up to three to five inches, making it extremely dangerous - please take extra care when travelling."
