A white, Bulgarian-registered HGV was travelling towards Fairburn when it collided with a black Renault Clio travelling in the opposite direction.

Sadly the driver and sole occupant of the Clio, a 19-year-old man from the Leeds area, died form his injuries.

The driver of the HGV, a 56-year-old Bulgarian national was taken to Pinderfields hospital with minor injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses, in particular, they would like to speak to the driver of a pale coloured or white car which was seen in the area at the time of the collision. Officers would like to speak to the occupant as they may be a vital witness who could have information which could assist the investigation.

Officers would also like to hear from anyone else who was travelling along the same stretch of road in either direction and saw either vehicle prior to the crash, or who witnessed the actual collision.
