Polls have opened in towns and villages across the our area as voting gets under way find a new MP.

Voters have thirteen candidates to chose from in what is likely to be the final outing for the Selby and Ainsty parliamentary constituency ahead of boundary changes that will take effect ahead of the next general election.

Voting began in some 83 polling places across the constituency at 7am this morning and will remain open until 10pm tonight.

Counting will take place overnight with a result expected in before breakfast on Friday morning.

Those wishing to cast their vote will need to take an acceptable form of ID, following recent changes in the law.
