A popular town centre café is set for an imminent move to a new home as speculation mounts over Costa Coffee’s arrival in town.
CJ’s Café, who have been based in the Market Cross Shopping Centre since 2009, are relocating to the unit in the same shopping centre that was formerly occupied by Osteria 23. Their new café, to be known as 'The Hub', is expected to have seating for upto 70 people, provide free wi-fi and will come with a fresh new look and emphasis on locally sourced produce.
Sara, one half of the husband and wife team that run CJ’s said, “We are really looking forward to the new unit in particular having the bigger outdoor seating area which is going to look great in the summer.
“The café will be around the same size and we’re still going to have our comfortable seating which is so popular with our customers. We work really hard to provide great customer service and that’s one thing that’s definitely not going to change.”
Once the existing café has been vacated it is set to benefit from major remodelling work that will see the unit knocked through into the former Just Right Beds store next door. An announcement over which company will take over the newly expanded 200m² unit is expected shortly with owners, Dransfield Properties, confirming they are to ‘bring a new company to the centre’.
That new company is widely expected to be national coffee shop giant Costa, having recently seen advertising job vacancies for a new outlet in Selby.
Asked about a planned move into the centre, a spokesperson for Costa told us, “I can confirm that one of our franchise partners, a local businessperson [is] looking at the site but nothing is confirmed as yet.”
