Police are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic collision on the A19 near Escrick.

Two cars, a silver or light-coloured Honda Type R and a Black Mercedes SLK convertible, were belived to be racing towards the road surfacing area just south of Escrick when the Honda lost control and collided with roadside furniture at around 5.55am on Wednesday 1 July 2015.

The driver of the Honda suffered serious injuries in the incident and was taken to York Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Mercedes failed to stop at the scene of the incident and officers are urging him to come forward so they can eliminate him from their enquiries.

Officers are also urging anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them with information.

Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for PC Dean Turner or Selby police.
