Christmas shoppers and town centre businesses are set to benefit from free parking on Saturdays in the run up to Christmas.

Selby District Council will waive the parking fee at it's pay and display car parks on four Saturdays in December in a move it hopes will keep tills ringing with festive cheer at local businesses throughout the town.

The first parking freebie will be on Saturday, December 5th when the council shows its support for Small Business Saturday. The nationwide initiative campaigns to encourage consumers to shop locally, supporting small businesses in their community own community.

Parking will then also be free on the Saturdays of December 12th, 19th and on Christmas Eve in a move in to attract more visitors to the town and lighten the load of Selebians wishing to do more of their festive shopping locally.

Selby District Council Leader Cllr Mark Crane said, “December is an incredibly busy month for our local businesses.  It is important that the council helps support local business by encouraging residents to shop locally and to encourage more shoppers to the district.

“Practical support like this is part of our wider objective to support growth and jobs, and to make the Selby district a great place to do business.”
