More than 50 new jobs will be created when Selby's £5 million leisure village throws open its doors this spring.
The newly-named 'Summit Indoor Adventure' complex on Scott Road is gearing up to bring a host of fresh activities into town for the first time. These include aerial trekking, climbing, indoor BMX and ski simulation.
It is due to open to the public from May this year and will be operated by 'Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles', the somewhat less inspiring new name for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust. They are the firm who has run the council's recreation and leisure facilities since 2009.
A range of employment opportunities have been advertised in advance of the grand opening. These range from instructors for skiing and aerial trekking to chefs and from catering staff to customer service and managerial rôles.
Pete Burt, Managing Director for IHL, said, “This is a great opportunity for anyone enthusiastic about improving the wellbeing of our local communities to make a real impact on residents in the Selby area and beyond.”
Other facilities due to be offered at the village include a six-lane 10-pin bowling alley and an adventure play zone with a dedicated area for babies and toddlers. An outdoor skate park will also be created having been designed in consultation with local skate park users.
The facility will link to the existing Selby Leisure Centre via a new glass walkway.
Cllr Dave Peart, Selby District Council’s executive member for responsibility for housing, leisure, health and culture, said: “The fantastic new leisure village will give a real boost to the local economy. It’s not only providing jobs but is set to attract visitors into town from across the wider region. It also gives residents more opportunities to get active and healthy on their doorstep.”
