A knife-weilding would-be robber is being sought after an attempted robbery at a Selby fast food outlet.

Police are appealing for information that could help in their investigations into the incident that took place yesterday evening at the Gowthorpe branch of Subway.

It happened at around 8:30pm when the assailant is alleged to have entered the shop, demanding that money be taken from the cash register.

The perpetrator is alleged to have used a knife to threaten the shop worker but they refused to comply with his demands, forcing him to leave empty-handed.

Police have described their suspect as white, aged in his mid-twenties to mid-thirties, over 5ft, 7in tall and of slim build. He was wearing a black scarf covering his face, a black beanie hat with a black hooded top over the hat and long sleeves. He wore black gloves, black jeans and white trainers.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who was in the area between 8.25pm and 8.55pm and saw a man matching the suspect's description is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for York Serious Crime Team.
