A racist at the centre of an incident that caused the evacuation of a Selby apartment building has appeared in court.
Simon Sheppard, 60, was ordered to pay a total of £315 in fines and charges during sentencing at York and Selby Magistrates Court yesterday.
The sentence relates to a charge of racial or religiously aggravated harassment to which Sheppard had earlier pled guilty to.
He was arrested on 14 July by officers who would later carry out a search of his apartment in Cockret Court.
An evacuation of the building was carried out after police found what they believed to be 'hazardous materials'.
The materials would be later deemed non-threatening, but not before residents had been forced to spend the night in a temporary shelter.
Sheppard will face a further charge relating to allegations of threatening behaviour when he next appears before the court on 15th September.
