Appeal for dashcam footage as motorcyclist dies

A motorcyclist has died after a collision on a popular riding route near Sherburn.

The 47-year-old rider, who has yet to be named by police, was involved in a collision on the B1222 between Sherburn and Squires Café bar in Newthorpe at around 3:45 on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash, from where the rider was taken to Leeds General Infirmary. He subsequently died of his injuries.

He was riding a green CCM motorbike, travelling south from Sherburn and had been assisted by other motorcyclists over a mechanical fault.

Police enquiries are ongoing into the incident and officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward to assist the investigation, in particular any vehicles that may have passed the group with dashboard cameras in operation prior to the collision.

The stretch of road remained closed to traffic until after 7:30pm to allow emergency services to attend to the casualty and to allow collision investigators to examine the scene.
