Storm debris has been cleared from Tadcaster Bridge after concerns were raised by local residents.

Heavy rains had brought a sizeable quantity of detritus down the River Wharfe, where it had accumulated against the newly repaired crossing.

The debris, which was not thought to represent any flood risk or danger to the structure of the bridge, was removed by the Environment Agency earlier this week.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire County Council, whose highways department own the structure of the bridge, confirmed that the cost of the operation will be shared jointly by the Environment Agency and the county council.
