A popular Cawood pub is celebrating following the completion of a major refurbishment and the creation of 12 new jobs.
The Castle Inn on Wistowgate has always been a popular waterhole for village locals as well as tourists visiting nearby attractions. Now, following £250k worth of investment from pub chain Punch, the pub is hoping to win over regulars and new customers with a new look.
Publican, Alan Gibson, explains, “The Castle Inn has always been the place to go locally but the premises had started to become rundown and the interior tired. But all that has now changed and I’m excited about ensuring that the pub is placed firmly on the map as the hub of the local community. I want to encourage local groups and business to use us as a meeting point and create more synergy between the pub and the caravan park for holidaymakers.”
Following a joint investment with Punch, The Castle Inn has been transformed into a welcoming, cosy place to enjoy a drink, snack or family meal. Dogs are also welcome and there is a menu for canine friends. Slate and reclaimed timber feature heavily in the interior design with soft furnishings adding to the traditional feel alongside woodburners. New carpets, curtains, lighting and redecoration throughout complete the interior changes. Externally, the pub has new lighting and signage improving its appeal to passers-by. Further enhancements to the exterior to create a decking area are also planned.
Alan continues: “Being a food-led venue, we have introduced a number of new options for our customers. All our food is homemade, using local, seasonal produce. We have an excellent local butcher who supplies the majority of our meat including local game. We offer a fixed price family meal for four for just £30 in our exclusive Family Friday offer. We run regular theme nights too including a bangers and mash evening with a selection of speciality sausages, ladies prosecco night, games evenings and a midweek curry and quiz night. We have three cask ales, a gin menu and a range of wines to complement the food menu including champagne and prosecco.
“Thanks to the investment from Punch and the support and training they’ve provided us with, we have a pub to be proud of. We’ve already received some excellent feedback from our customers and look forward building on this success.”
Commenting on behalf of Punch, new business development manager, Hayley Waller, said: “Alan and his team are full of enthusiasm and have the necessary drive to make The Castle Inn a success. The refurbishment has transformed the pub and I believe that it really does offer something for everyone. I’m looking forward to continually supporting Alan and his team as they continue to develop the business going forward.”
