Delays on Selby trains as man 'electrocuted' on Leeds line

Rail commuters heading home to Selby from Leeds tonight are experiencing delays as a result of an incident on the track.

Emergency services were called to a site close to George Street in Leeds where a man is believed to have been electrocuted after running on to the railway.

A British Transport Police spokeswoman confirmed, “Our officers are currently dealing with an incident on the railway line adjacent to George Street in Leeds following reports at 3.38pm of a male being electrocuted on the tracks.

The as-yet unidentified man, who is believed to be in his 20s, was taken to hospital where he is being treated for severe burns. His condition has been described as critical by emergency responders.

The line has now been re-opened, but services are suffering delays as a result. Trains to and through Selby, South Milford and Church Fenton were delayed by up to 60 minutes.
