Changes to Selby voters list to be explained
Citizens throughout the Selby area are being asked to keep their eyes on their daily post for Council letters explaining changes to the way they register to vote.

Selby District Council is writing to all of the district's 67,000 electors as the biggest change to the electoral registration system in nearly 100 years come into effect.
A new, more secure, system of registration is being introduced where each voter is responsible for registering themselves. This replaces the traditional system where the responsibility for registration of those in each home rested with the 'head of household'.
More than 80% of residents are expected to be automatically transferred onto the new electoral register. Some however will need to take action to join or remain on it.
Those who need to register are assured that the process is quick and easy and can be done by visiting the Government's website at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote .
Mary Weastell, Chief Executive of Selby District Council, said, "Selby residents will receive a letter between 25 July and the 1 August that will explain the change to the electoral registration system. Look out for the letter as it will tell you if you have been automatically transferred to the new register or not.
"Although this is a big change, for those who do need to re-register the process is relatively simple and we strongly recommend those who can, do it online as it will take only take five minutes."
