Photo released as police investigate Selby vodka thefts
Police investigating thefts from shops in the Selby area have released an image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incidents.
Selby
Thefts, including several where bottles of spirits were taken, have occurred at shops in and around the town over the last month.
In releasing the CCTV image, officers are hoping that anyone who recognises the man from the image will come forward.
Police say some of the thefts have involved a man having selected a bottle of vodka from shelves and put it into his bag before making his way to the counter. On approaching the counter he then tells the clerk he doesn't have the means to pay and hand back a bottle. The bottles have later been found to have been filled with water.
On other occasions a man has simply left the shops with the spirits without paying.
Offenses are alleged to have occurred at B&M Bargains on the Three Lakes shopping park, Abbeyside Filling Station on Bawtry Road and also at East Common Post Office on Barwick Parade.
Officers are also urging shopkeepers in Selby to be aware of these incidents and remain vigilant.
Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 - select option 2 - and ask for PC Alison Marshall or Selby police. Alternatively, information can be emailed to alison.marshall@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
