Finkle Street bookie plan given the nod

A former town centre shoe-shop is set to become home to a national bookmaker after the change was agreed by district planners.

Betting chain Betfred is now free to relocate its Selby operation into the vacant unit at 31-33 Micklegate. The empty shop was previously home to footware retailer Shoe Zone.

A report submitted as part of the application process said,  "The unit is currently vacant and therefore has a negative impact on the vitality and viability of the centre. The proposal will increase footfall and provide an opportunity for linked trips as well as contributing to the town centre’s evening economy."
