The figures, released in the Department for Education's annual league tables have shown a national decline in pass rates by state funded secondaries. The number of schools said to be under-performing in England has doubled as schools struggle to get to grips with changes to the exam system implemented by former the Education Secretary, Michael Gove.
Nationally, 330 schools missed their target of achieving a 40% rate for pupils gaining five good GCSEs, including English and maths.
