PC Dave Knox, from York BTP, is investigating the incident, which took place on Friday, 24 January.

He said: “The two vehicles – both Ford Focus – were left securely locked in the station car park. At some point between 6.45pm and 10.15pm, the cars were vandalised causing substantial damage as windows were smashed and sprayed.

“The estimated damage is thought to be in excess of £3,500.”

Officers are continuing their enquiries and asking anyone who may have been close by to the station to call police.

PC Knox added: “If you were at the station on Friday evening and saw anyone acting suspiciously, I’d urge you to come forward and speak to officers.”
