Selby addiction treatment centre highlights successful first year in community

A Selby-based centre, set up to help treat people with drug and alcohol problems, has celebrated its first year of service in the local community.

Gowthorpe-based North Yorkshire Horizons threw a special anniversary party to proclaim the success of former clients who have been discharged, having becoming free of alcohol or drugs.

Local people and organisations who have partnered with the centre were invited to meet staff and service users. They found out about the services delivered and heard success stories about how lives were being transformed in Selby. 

Some 2,686 people from across the county were referred to the service during its first year of operation, introduced via a mixture of self-referrals, from friends and family, or from medical professionals. Of those referred, 1,972 people received specialised assessments based on the severity and complexity of their addictions.

Pleased with the centres success over the last 12 months, Ted Haughey, NY Horizon's operations director was in an upbeat mood about the prospects for those who become clients of his centre.

He told TheSelebian, “This represents a major breakthrough, not just for those people from Selby recovering from alcohol and drug addiction, but also for families and friends who can look forward to a brighter future for loved ones who are on their way to permanent and sustained recovery from their addiction.

“Every single day, across the whole of North Yorkshire, we strive to ensure that everyone who contacts service receives the support needed to beat their addiction.”
