A 16-year-old boy has suffered a fractured skull after being knocked off his bike in lunchtime traffic.
The incident occurred when the teenager and a blue Ford Fiesta came into collision on the Bawtry Road bridge, close to Selby Bus Station, at around 1:20 this afternoon.
An ambulance was called and the boy was taken to York District Hospital for treatment. The boy remains in hospital tonight where he is receiving treatment for a fractured skull and a broken elbow.
His injuries were initially described by police as 'minor' in nature but later discovered to be more serious.
The incident had been dealt with by 2:30pm with traffic beginning to return to normal.
