Burglary warning as police say area targeted by thieves 'from West Yorkshire'
Police in the Selby District are urging residents to take up free security assessments as they warn the area is being targeted by criminals travelling into the area from West Yorkshire.

Officers are concerned about an increase in burglaries in the areas surrounding Tadcaster and Selby in particular where offenders have entered properties by breaking Euro-lock on uPVC doors.
North Yorkshire Police are advising residents to consider taking up a free security assessment by the crime prevention charity Community Action and Support Against Crime (CASAC), with whom the force works in partnership with. The charity is a non-profitable, social enterprise which provides no-obligation, free security assessments for homes and outbuildings.
The charity can advise you on the most up-to-date security devices, including break-secure locks for uPVC doors. They can also arrange to supply and fit products to make your home as secure as possible.
Temporary Chief Inspector Richard Abbott of Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said, “The Selby District has been targeted by burglars who we believe are travelling into the area from West Yorkshire.
“We are doing all we can to bring these people to justice, but residents need to be vigilant and make life as hard as possible for criminals.”
Speaking of the increase in burglaries in the area, he added, “Some of the reported break-ins have been through insecure doors, so please ensure you always lock your doors, even when you are at home. It takes seconds and could prevent a lot of distress and financial loss.
“It is also very helpful to the police if members of the public report any suspicious activity, people or vehicles in their neighbourhoods. Try to note down the registration number of any suspicious vehicles if you can.
“Please don’t hesitate to call or think that your information is trivial, it could be vitally important to our investigation. Please trust your instinct and report anyone or any vehicle that looks out of place. This type of information can be of huge value to the police and regularly helps us to disrupt criminals.”
