Selby 'fight pub' will stay closed as licence revoked
A town centre pub, shut following a large scale disturbance that left a man with life-threatening injuries, has had its licence revoked by licensing chiefs.

JT Mellanby's on Finkle Street has been closed since April 7th, when police requested its licence be suspended ahead of an urgent review.
The review hearing, held at Selby's Civic Centre on Wednesday, found serious failings in the way in which the pub was operated. Branding the establishment as 'unsafe', it resolved to revoke the bar's premise licence with immediate effect.
At the heading, representations were made by council enforcement officers, North Yorkshire police as well as the licence holder.
The committee cited poor management standards management at the venue under as a key issue in their decision making process.
A council spokesperson said of its decision, “This review has been sparked by a serious incident, the most serious incident in licence premises that the Licensing Committee have had to deal with. The behaviour of the staff during and after the incident was well below the standards that the Committee expects.
“The Committee did not have confidence that the premises licence holder would take the necessary control and put in place the appropriate measures to promote the licensing objectives. For that reason, the appropriate step to promote the licensing objectives was to revoke the licence.”
