Brayton home ransacked in daytime burglary

Burglars broke into a detached bungalow on Doncaster Road between 2:30pm and 5:40pm on Wednesday afternoon. Entering through a rear window, the perpetrators went through every room in the property, leaving items discarded all over the floor.

Crime prevention advice

Please ensure your home is never left in total darkness during the evening by using a light timer switch. A home left in darkness is an obvious sign that no-one is in. A timer fitted to a radio will add. This will make your home appear less of a target for burglars who are on the lookout for empty houses.

Even when you are in your home, ensure your doors are locked and windows secured and do not leave high value items like computers, ipads, mobile phones and desirable Christmas presents where everyone can see them through windows and doors.

Vehicle security is also important at home and when out and about, keep valuables including shopping, handbags, sat-navs, mobile phones etc, locked away in the boot and out of view of potential thieves.

When you arrive back home, please ensure your vehicle keys are hidden from view in a safe place and not obvious to any trespasser in your property who could then steal your vehicle.

A number of items were taken during the incident including jewellery, a cheque book and a pink Adidas sports bag.

Police are appealing for any information with could help their investigation, including anyone who saw or heard any suspicious activity or people in the area. In particular, they would like to hear from anyone who saw a person walking along Doncasater Road with a pink sports bag on the day in question.

They would also like to hear from anyone who may have found a discarded cheque book or the pink bag.

PC Dave White said: “We would like to hear from anyone who has information about this crime, but also want to encourage anyone who sees suspicious activity in their neighbourhood to contact us.

“Even if you think it’s trivial, please do not hesitate to call us, a call with good intent is a good call and may protect you and your neighbours property and help the police to arrest those responsible for committing crime.”
