A cyclist had to be air-lifted to hospital this morning after he was involved in a crash with a heavy goods lorry near Eggborough.

The collision occurred at around 8:45 this morning on the roundabout south of the village where the A19 meets with the A62.

A 49-year-old man from the local area was seriously injured in the crash having sustained leg injuries, described as serious. He was taken by Yorkshire Air Ambulance to the Leeds General Infirmary where he remains tonight.

Police are asking for anybody who witnessed the crash to contact them immediately.

The heavy goods vehicle involved is described as having a white cab and a white and blue trailer. The occupant of the HGV was not injured during the collision.

Traffic Sergeant Neale Rees, of the Force’s Roads Policing Group, said: “If you witnessed the collision or saw either of the vehicles involved just prior to the incident, I urge you to come forward and contact the police straight away.”
