Controlled explosion after 'explosives' found at Barlow

Army bomb disposal teams have carried out a controlled explosion on suspected explosive material at site of an ongoing incident in Barlow.

Residents in a village near Selby had been evacuated from their homes following the discovery of the material in an outbuilding at Railway Cottages.

Police were called to the scene at around 9am who established a cordon around the scene and evacuated nearby homes. The army's bomb disposal unit arrived just after noon.

The incident is believed to have been triggered after a member of the public discovered a quantity of the suspicious material and raised the alarm. A 

A police spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police confirmed the disposal of the material, adding, "We’re grateful to local residents for their continued patience."
