Tour de Yorkshire: Prizes on offer for 'best dressed bike'!

Now is the time to get into the Tour de Yorkshire spirit and dust off your bike and find the most creative way to dress up your bicycle!

Selby Abbey is set to host a best dressed bike competition as the town marks the start of the Tour de Yorkshire. Those that enter have the chance to win some great prizes.

The best dressed bike winner will be awarded a caravan holiday worth £250. The prize will take the form of a free 3 night hire in a 4 berth caravan on a self-tow basis. This prize has been kindly donated by Caravanhire-online.co.uk.  Other prizes include a bike courtesy of Halfords and a Playmobil ‘Country’ toy set courtesy of Wetheralls Department Store. There will be other prizes up for grabs to be awarded on the day.

A spokesperson for Selby Abbey said, “This is a really exciting opportunity for Selby Abbey to join in with the festivities to mark the arrival of the Tour de Yorkshire to Selby. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Selby and to be a part of this exciting festival is a privilege.”

To enter the competition all you have to do is download an entry form or pick one up in person at the Abbey (during opening hours). Once you have completed the form please return it in person to the Abbey or via email to office@selbyabbey.org.uk.

There will be two categories – 11 years and under and 12-16 years. The best dressed bikes that are to be entered into the competition must be dropped off at the Abbey on 1 May between 2.30pm-7pm.  Judging will take place the following day. They can be collected on 2 May between 2pm and 4pm.

Mary Weastell, Chief Executive of Selby District Council said, “The competition gives residents and visitors a great opportunity to get involved with the festival and use their creative skills to dress up their own bicycles.

“We’ve seen lots of businesses in the area really getting behind the Tour de Yorkshire and this is an innovative way for individuals to show their support for the race.”
