Jewellery taken in broad daylight burglary in Thorpe Willoughby

The property in Leeds Road was entered after its rear patio doors were forced open between 11:35 and 11:50 yesterday morning.

Thieves ransacked the home before making off with a haul including a jewellery box containing four gold rings.  Four commemorative five pound coins were also stolen during the raid.

Selby police are appealing for witnesses and help with any information that could help them crack the case. In particular police are keen to speak with a man who was seen to walk down the drive of this property close to the time of the burglary.

He is described as a white, aged in his late 30s, 5'9'' tall and of slim build. He had short brown hair which was slightly greying and was wearing a dark blue or black quilted jacket and blue jeans.

Officers also want to hear from anyone who has been offered the stolen gold rings or commemorative coins for sale.

PC Angela Richardson of Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "I urge anyone who has any information about the burglary, no matter how insignificant you may think it is, to contact the police.

"It's also important that anyone who sees any suspicious activity in their own area rings the police. Most people know their own neighbourhood and know what looks out of place within it. If something looks suspicious to you, please don't hesitate to call the police as you could be helping to prevent yourself or one of your neighbours from becoming a victim of crime."
