Taiwanese diplomatic visit offers hopes of new business opportunities
A high-level visit by Taiwanese diplomats could lead to potential new investment opportunities for the Selby area.

Representatives from the Taiwanese government and Taiwan Trade Centre visited Selby yesterday for a lunch meeting with local businesses. The new interest in our are comes after the high-profile wedding of Taiwanese 'pop-royalty' Jay Chou at Selby Abbey earlier this year.
Selby District Council’s Chief Executive Mary Weastell organised the event which also included key business partners including Welcome to Yorkshire and the Local Enterprise Partnerships for both the Leeds City region and North Yorkshire and York.
She explained, “This event was the ideal opportunity to help us to open up new enterprise opportunities by strengthening our overseas connections with Asia and local businesses.
“Businesses in Asia are particularly aware of Selby at the moment following the wedding of Jay Chou at Selby Abbey. That event has given Selby a significant boost in terms of tourism and we are already reaping the rewards with an increase in visitors coming to the Abbey as a direct result of the international coverage the wedding received.
“We know the district has much to offer and we will capitalise on this opportunity to raise our district’s profile and build business links to support our long-term priority of making Selby a great place to do business.”
