Selby & Ainsty Parliamentary Election

Nigel Adams was elected for his first term in office as Member of Parliament for the newly created constituency of Selby and Ainsty.
Though Selby & Ainsty was contested for the first time in this election it was determined to be a Conservative hold rather than a seat won. This is due to the political make-up of the constituency and previous voting results in the individual areas that were brought together to create the new seat.
Mr Adams replaced John Grogan as Member for Selby. Mr Grogan chose to step down at the end of his third term in office rather than face the prospect of fighting the election based on the new, less favourable boundaries of the constituency.

Swing: 9.7% to Conservative from Labour.
Turnout: 51,728 (71.1% of electorate)
