Police are continuing an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a fatal road traffic collision at Bilbrough.

A 46-year-old woman, from the Leeds area, was struck at around 7:00 pm on Monday evening when she was travelling on foot on an eastbound section of the A64. She was taken to York District Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The collision involved a white BMW car. The driver of which was not injured in the incident. 

The A64 was closed for approximately six hours before reopening at around 1:00am.

Police say they are not yet in a position where they are able to release the identity of the deceased.

Traffic Sergeant Yvonne Taylor, of the Force’s Roads Policing Group, said, “If you were on the A64 in the Bilbrough area at the time of collision and have not yet contacted the police, I ask you to do so straight away, as you may have vital information that could assist the investigation.”
