Teenager dies in Barlby tractor collision

A teenager has died following after the car he was travelling with collided with a tractor near Barlby.

The crash occurred at around 19:30 on Monday night when a blue Land Rover Range Rover came into collision with a Massey Ferguson tractor towing a large trailer laden with hay bales. 

Both vehicles were understood to have been travelling east (away from Barlby) on the A163, Market Weighton Road, when the collision occurred, close to the junction with Whitemoor Lane.

A 19-year-old man who was travelling in the Range Rover was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

A second 19-year-old man who was also travelling in the Range Rover remains in hospital.

The driver of the tractor was also taken to hospital for treatment following the collision. He is helping officers with their enquiries.

Officers have arrested a 17 year-old boy on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was later released on bail as enquiries continue.

North Yorkshire Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision, saw either vehicle in the moments leading up to it, or has relevant dashcam footage, to come forward to them by calling 101.
