Farming excellence gong for Kelfield farmer at Yorkshire Show
A Kelfield farmer has picked up the top gong at a prestigious awards ceremony at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show.

Richard Bramley of Manor Farm was named overall champion in the Tye Trophy Awards hosted by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society. The competition, part of England’s premier agricultural event, rewards excellence in farming whilst recognising commitment to conservation.
Mr. Bramley came top over competing farms from across North of England championship. His attention to detail and the way in which his farm encourages bird species to flourish contributed to his win.
Charles Mills, a judge and trustee of the Society said, “Richard’s was a very well run farm and his attention to detail, combining conservation and a commercial arable business, was well done. Wild flower meadows have been planted, bird species encouraged and hedgerow management features. His dedication to promoting the farming industry to different groups and particularly to students was impressive.”
He added, “It is vital that conservation in agriculture is not regarded as something only to be considered by environmental enthusiasts, but incorporated into practical, commercial farming. Over the years we have seen some excellent examples of how this can be done, all of which helps encourage others and is vital to the future of British farming.” The ceremony took place on Wednesday 9 July.

East Yorkshire: Tim Sellers of Carr House Farm, Foston on the Wolds, Driffield.
Northumberland: Tom Comber of Elwick Farm, Belford near Berwick upon Tweed.
Tyne Tees: Chris, Liz and Harry Hodgson of Piercebridge Farm, Piercebridge, Darlington.
West and South Yorkshire: John Key of Garfield House Farm, Midhopestones, Stocksbridge.
And for North Yorkshire: Richard Bramley of Manor Farm, Kelfield , Selby.
