Recycling scheme boost to make a thousand district apartments greener

Over the next few months Selby District Council be delivering new communal recycling bins to residential apartment buildings throughout the district. At the same time residents in the buildings will also be issued with four reusable recycling bags to keep in the home to help them recycle without the hassle of having to trudge down to the bins with every can or bottle.

The new scheme will mean that for the first time residents in apartments will have full access to the district's recycling facilities. 

The reusable bags will be able to contain up to 25 litres of paper & cardboard, glass, cans and plastic. They will allow residents to separate their waste in their homes before taking it to the new larger communal recycling bins.

Cllr Gillian Ivey, deputy leader of Selby District Council welcomed the roll out of the scheme and said, "I'm delighted that the full range of recycling services will now be available to even more residents in the district.

"These handy bags will make it easier for residents in flats to have access to the recycling services currently available to other residents.

"We know that if residents find recycling facilities more convenient to use, more household waste is recycled which is good for all of us. But this isn't just about meeting recycling targets - it's also about making sure all of our residents have access to the full range of facilities and services, whatever type of property they live in. whether they live in a flat or a different type of property."

The Council estimates that its new scheme will enable some 1,000 properties be able to recycle for the first time. The roll out is due to commence later this month.
