Biogas engergy plans to be revealed in South Milford

A planning application for the scheme is due to be lodged with district planners next week. If successful, enough electricity to power upto 3,500 homes could be generated by burning gasses produced through a process of Anaerobic Digestion.

The plant would be constructed as part of a £15m project by AB Agri at The Maltings Organic Treatment facility, already the site of an existing organic waste disposal site.

Anaerobic Digestion works by using micro-organisms to produce gas from organic material such as slurry or waste food in an airtight container. The biogas produced contains large quantities of methane which is then used as a fuel to produce renewable electricity.

The company behind the project is inviting local residents to find out more about the scheme at a session at South Milford Community Primary School in Sand Lane, tomorrow night. The meeting takes place between 6 and 8pm.

AB Agri say 16 full time jobs could be created if the project is green-lit. If it is, development work could get under way in July.
