Lucky escape for goslings in bypass danger
Six young geese had a very lucky escape when they were rescued from one of Selby's busiest roads.

The cute goslings had wandered onto the A63 Selby Bypass, apparently unaware of the grave danger they had found themselves in.
They were spotted by eagle-eyed members of the public as they walked along the main road, before dropping through the gaps of a storm drain cover in the road.
Members of the public immediately raised the alarm with staff at the Yorkshire Swan Rescue centre based in Barlow, who responded immediately to their calls for help.
Dan Sidley, founder of the Charity and rescuer of the young birds said, “We were contacted on Monday afternoon by very concerned members of the public regarding some goslings that had dropped into a storm drain just off the Selby bypass.
“When we arrived at the scene, fortunately the drain was full high of water, which allowed our rescue nets to reach down to the youngsters and pull them to safety. The birds were very lucky not to have been run over by the busy traffic.”
The birds are now recovering at the sanctuary in Barlow, where it is hoped they will make a full recovery.
Mr Sidley added, “Unfortunately the goslings seem to have become seperated from their parents, which is probably why they went walking to try and reunite themselves. Obviously they would be unable to survive at this young age alone in the wild, so they shall be reared at our Sanctuary until big enough to be released back into the wild where they will be able to fend for themselves.”
