Five arrests in Selby pre-Christmas drink-drive crackdown
Five drivers have been arrested on Selby area roads as North Yorkshire Police continue their annual Christmas crackdown on drink and drug driving.

Across North Yorkshire a total of 71 arrests for drink or drug driving offences have been made since December 1st. 37 of those have been charged to appear at court.
Eleven have already been banned from Britain's roads after being fast-tracked to appear before magistrates. Bans handed out to those fast-tracked have been between 12 and 36 months.
The crackdown which is an important aspect of North Yorkshire Police’s Take Care at Christmas campaign, will continue into the New Year with targeted patrols on the roads across North Yorkshire.
Deputy Chief Constable Tim Madgwick, of North Yorkshire Police, said, “The number of arrests over the weekend was staggering and quite frankly extremely disappointing.
“Despite repeated warnings about the dangers of drink and drug driving it is hard to believe that people still find it acceptable to get behind the wheel while intoxicated.
“I have said it many times before, the safe limit is zero. If you are going out intending to have a drink make sure you arrange some alternative transport to get home.
“Seventy one people have been arrested on suspicion of drink or drug driving since our campaign began on 1 December and it is extremely fortunate that none of these people have caused a tragedy.”
