Police appeal to trace man in connection with £1.8k fraud

Police investigating an alleged fraud in Selby have issued CCTV images of a man they are looking to trace.

The incident dates back to December when a member of the public was approached by a man in the town and offered cheap cigarettes for sale. The victim handed over money on a number of occasions but no cigarettes were ever received.

The victim also later provided his bank details to the offender and subsequently found that a number of loans and a phone contract had been taken out using his account, which he had no knowledge of. In total, the victim has been left about £1,800 out of pocket.

Despite extensive police enquiries, the alleged offender is still to be identified.

Officers are appealing to anyone who recognises the man shown in the CCTV images to contact them, as he may have important information that could help the investigation.

Anyone who can help identify him is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for PC 310 Lee Ward, or email lee.ward310@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
