Selby residents will be able to enjoy the first class facilities at the new Summit Indoor Adventure this bank holiday weekend.

Opening this Saturday, the £5.7m project offers a variety of activities for all the family. These include an aerial trek, adventure climbing, ten pin bowling and adventure play, as well as indoor skiing and snowboarding and an indoor skate park. A café and restaurant are also available on site.

The attraction was officially launched by champion inline skater Jenna Downing last weekend, when a host of VIPs gathered to try out the facilities.

Chair of Selby District Council, Cllr Stephanie Duckett commented, “What a great building, a great facility and a great opportunity for our town, our district and our region.”

Leader of Selby District Council, Cllr Mark Crane added, “This isn’t just about the fantastic climbing wall, the great bowling facilities or the amazing ski simulator – the only one of this kind outside of London by the way – this is about putting Selby and the whole district firmly on the map.

“This is about supporting local companies and retailers to thrive as we welcome visitors to our area… making us a great place to do business. This is about giving our residents more opportunities to get involved in sport and leisure activities… making our area a great place to enjoy life. It’s these big ambitions that we’re supporting.  And it’s these big ambitions on which we’re delivering.”

An outdoor skate park, designed following consultation with local skate park users, will also be built on site with work due to start in June and be completed by August.

Pete Burt, Managing Director for Inspiring healthy lifestyles, who manage the site, said: “By making exercise fun, by creating adventurous play in a safe environment and by appealing to people’s sense of excitement we hope this not only becomes a regional tourist attraction but one which also generates a passion for physical activity, fitness and health.

The project is being delivered on behalf of the council by Alliance Leisure, with construction partner ISG taking the role of principal contractor. The Summit will be run by Inspiring healthy lifestyles.

Danny Murray, ISG’s Northern regional managing director, added: “Everybody involved in this project has shown great ambition, vision and commitment to deliver an outstanding result at the new Summit Indoor Adventure in Selby. I’m confident that these superb new facilities are set to become a key community resource for generations to come.”
