£50m Selby marina plans sunk as planners torpedo scheme
Plans to develop a multi-million pound marina complex on the site of a former Selby factory have hit choppy waters after the scheme was knocked back by the area’s Planning Committee.

Developers, Immowell NV, had requested permission to turn the former Rigid Paper site at Dennison Road into a mixed use development that would have created more than 400 new homes, seven retail units as well as the proposed marina with mooring space for 32 boats.
But Councillors meeting at Selby District Council's Planning Committee last Wednesday night refused to back the scheme, determining that the project’s proposed eight-storey apartment building was simply too tall.
A number of Councillors also voiced concerns over high volume of new residential units being crammed onto the site.
The committee’s decision to refuse permission runs contrary to the advice of the Council’s own planning officers who said, in a report to the committee, the project would provide ‘a unique opportunity for the District which will provide a mix of development which will assist in the regeneration of the town and have wider benefits for the District in terms of tourism and economic development’.
The firm says the development would have brought around 100 new jobs to the area.
