Dramatic Eggborough lightning strike caught on film
The dramatic moment in which a giant chimney stack at a Selby power plant was struck by lightning has been caught on camera.

The colourful bolt of energy was seen to strike the 200m high main chimney stack at Eggborough Power Station as storms battered the area during Friday evening.
The strike was caught on camera thanks to the quick thinking of local photographer Phil Lowe. Sensing the opportunity to capture the dramatic snap, he was already in place as the summer storm moved over the 2,000 MegaWatt plant.
Commenting via his astronomy photography website, Mr Lowe said, 'I noticed the storm moving in so set the shutter to continuously fire off indefinitely and hoped for the best. The strike was blinding!'
Mr Lowe wasn't the only one to have his camera trained on the giant smoke-stack during the stormy evening. The following video shows the second the chimney was struck in close up thanks to CCTV.
Correction 12/08: Eggborough's output is 2,000 MW not 500 MW as previously stated - Thanks to the keen eye of Andy Simcoe. -ed
