Selby's brand new leisure centre was officially opened by Rebecca Adlington at a special event on Saturday.

A Civic Ceremony and plaque unveiling by the Olympian marked the completion of the £7m project.
Rebecca – the first British swimmer in 100 years to win two Olympic gold medals – also delivered teaching sessions for young swimmers, including local schoolchildren and youngsters from Selby Tiger Sharks.

“Delivering the new leisure centre to the people of the district has been a significant achievement and it is a fantastic addition to the town. It really is a first rate facility and I was incredibly proud to be part of such a wonderful official opening ceremony.”
Andy Wiggans, Chair of WLCT which is managing Selby Leisure Centre, said: “We are extremely proud to be managing this brilliant new facility and supporting people in Selby in becoming more active and healthy. It was great to see the showcase of activities available at the centre during the event on Saturday, and I am sure this new facility is going to be a wonderful asset to the community.”
Selby Leisure Centre has two swimming pools – a training pool and a six-lane 25m pool. The facility also includes a health and fitness centre with up to 100 stations of equipment and dedicated changing facilities; a class and exercise studio; a refurbished synthetic sports pitch; a multi-use space for large classes, activities and sports such as judo, dance sessions and children’s activities; meeting spaces and room hire and a sauna and steam room complex.
Selby Leisure Centre has been part-funded by a £2m Sport England grant.
