Police's Selby operation hailed a 'Jolly' good success
North Yorkshire Police its partner agencies have described how an event to promote security in Selby this weekend was a great success.

On Friday 12 December 2014, Operation Jolly saw police officers, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Selby District Council, Selby Community Safety Partnership, Neighbourhood Watch, Trading Standards, Youth Services, the 95 Alive York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership and Independent Domestic Abuse Services (IDAS), all join forces to take their crime prevention and safety advice to the streets.
Officers gave members of the public vital crime prevention advice as part of their 'Take care at Christmas' campaign. This centred around the key messages including, staying safe at home, on the roads and while out celebrating.
The fire service gave a chip pan fire demonstration and simulated extracting a casualty from a vehicle involved in a crash.
Also there to pass on advice were officers from the North Yorkshire Trading Standards Office. They were on hand to warn people about counterfeit goods and how to spot fake designer goods such as handbags, t-shirts and cosmetics. They also gave advice on how to deal with bogus callers.
Selby Council officers gave advice about housing and what to do if you are suffering from antisocial behaviour. Youth Services provided advice to young people about the dangers of alcohol and as part of the Be safe, be seen campaign, handed out high visibility wristbands.
The Selby Community Safety Partnership handed out free light timer switches to help thwart opportunist burglars as part of the Lock up, Light up campaign.
Members of the public also got the chance to test their driving skills while under the influence of alcohol using 95 Alive's beer goggles and drink drive simulator.
On the evening of Saturday, December 13th, officers took to the streets to provide reassurance patrols to support the night time economy.
The day was organised by Sergeant Carol Kirk of Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team. She said, "The day was a huge success and it was very well received by members of the public.
"There are serious messages that we need to get across to ensure everyone has a safe, peaceful and secure festive season and by working together with partner agencies, we provide a coordinated service and can make the best use of the resources available to help local people. I would like to thank everyone who took part."
