Regeneration project brings new homes to Tadcaster families

The first tenants have moved in to their new homes after the completion of a Tadcaster regeneration project.

Rebecca Bennison and her son Mason were amongst the first to be handed their keys and are now settling in to their first family home where the town's old council office was transformed into new affordable homes.

Conversion of the former public building into new affordable retail space and living accommodation was undertaken by the Selby and District Housing Trust. Work got under way in December and was completed at the end of March.

Settling in to her new home, Rebecca said, “I am looking forward to living here as this will be our first home as a family.”

Cllr John Mackman (Con, SDC Monk Fryston), Chairman of Selby and District Housing Trust, said, “It is wonderful that we can start to welcome tenants to the new Kirkgate accommodation. I am really pleased to see that a disused building in the district has been put back into good use to offer the people of Tadcaster more housing and business space options.”

The regeneration scheme continues with the next development already underway in the nearby St Joseph’s Streetr. This project involves the development of a piece of waste land to provide three family sized homes and is likely to be ready in the autumn.
