Work starts on £100k brand new Selby skate park

Construction work is under way on Scott Road where a brand new skate park is expected to open later this year.
The £98,000 new facility is being built on land close to Selby Leisure Centre and will be available from November.
Featuring a number of obstacles including half pipes and ramps, the skate park will free for use by local skaters.
Provision of a new skate park in Selby has been a long time coming, The town's old skate park was shut in 2012 following the devastating fire at the former Abbey Leisure Centre.
Mark Crane (Con, Brayton) has told of how the development will fulfil a promise made to skate park users that the park would reopen.
He said, “We’ve listened to what lots of skate park users told us they wanted. We’ve held a number of consultation events and have incorporated many of the suggestions into the new skate park.
“And I’m pleased to announce that it will be free to use – just as I promised it would be when the old skate park closed.”
“This skate park development is the final piece of our leisure provision jigsaw which is a key strand of our long-term economic plans to support the town with top class facilities that bring in visitors and residents from the surrounding area,” Cllr Crane added.
