Finkle Street to be turfed in time for World Cup

Controversial plans to rip up the cobbles of Finkle Street took an unexpected turn today when it was announced that the historic Selby street would most likely be turfed.

Unveiling the plans, the project was described as both sustainable and an environmentally friendly alternative to asphalt.

One inside told us, "We've tried everything to try to stop traffic from using the street as a rat run. With this new scheme we will be able to turn on the sprinklers if our number plate recognition cameras spot an unauthorised vehicle."

It is understood that as part of the project a number of the old cobbles will be incorporated into a rockery to be sited adjacent to the post office.

Works are due to get underway during May and are expected to be completed in time for the World Cup.
