Council's warning over scam calls to residents

Selby area residents are being warned not to become victims of phone scammers thought to be targetting our area.

Council's warning over scam calls to residents

Selby District Council has warned of the possible scam after its customer contact centre today received large number of calls from residents who had received calls by persons purporting to be from the Council.

Those targetted by the rogue callers report having been asked about an accident they have had and reported to the Council.

A Council spokeperson said, "More than twenty separate incidents have been logged with the council and these details have been passed to the police.

"All residents should be on their guard and be aware we would not contact them in this way."

Anyone contacted in this way should not give their details and should contact the police on the non-emergency number 101.
