Eggborough's coal-fired power station which supplies approximately 4% of the all the UK's power needs is set to by purchased by Energetický a průmyslový (EPH), subject to regulatory approval by the European Commission.

Approximately 800 people are employed at Eggborough, with around 300 of those on a full-time basis.

The plants's future had looked bleak following a government decision, in February this year, to reject a bid for funds to convert to biomass.
